There has been some confusion about the difference between the Oakley Racing Jacket and the Oakley Jawbone, so today we’re writing this article to clear that up. In short, these glasses are almost identical, Oakley just took the original Jawbone and renamed it, so the Jawbone has been replaced by the Racing Jacket. All parts are interchangeable between the two models. They are almost identical but there are a few differences worth noting.
What’s the Difference?
1)Name
The most obvious difference is the name. 2012 saw Oakley rename the Jawbone the Racing Jacket and release a new generation of frames. Although the two pairs are very similar, there are subtle differences between them.
2) Icons
Each pair of the new Oakley Racing Jacket eyewear comes in two different colors with an embedded “Oakley O icon” that snaps easily into the temples. So you can swap them out and customize the look. The original Oakley Jawbone glasses came standard with a non-interchangeable icon color. the icons in the Racing Jackets are also slightly larger than the icons in the Jawbones. The icons in the Racing Jackets are also slightly larger than the icons in the Jawbones. And the icons cannot be swapped between pairs because the Jawbone icons cannot be removed.
3) Lenses
All of the non-prescription lenses in the new Racing Jacket have anti-fog vents, while only some of the lenses in the Oakley Jawbone have vents. Nonetheless, when you order MRY lenses for either of these models, you have the option of choosing lenses with or without anti-fog vents. the Jawbone lenses and Racing Jacket lenses are compatible. However, all Racing Jacket lenses are vented. Only some Jawbone lenses are vented.
4) Stems
The stem is identical in shape and size (126 mm). However, the end of the RJ is perforated to accommodate the retaining strap.
5) Thru Bolts:
The through bolts on the Jawbones are actually a quarter of a millimeter longer than the bolts in the race jacket, so they cannot be replaced. It looks very small, but the added length can cause stripping if you put the penetration bolts from your Jawbones into your race jacket.
Oakley Jawbone and Racing Jacket eyewear have some similarities in addition to these differences. Both glasses feature high-quality optical components. They have interchangeable lenses and a comfortable fit. both the Jawbone and Racing Jacket are known for their durability.
